(Not) Beyond the Pale

Often misunderstood, sometimes maligned, passed by with an up-turned nose. The emo college student from next door? Nope. Pale ale.

A brew that I find one of the best beers for summer, pale ale is often over looked. Too plain perhaps? Lighter in character than most but night as light as a wheat beer, it’s one of my personal favorites.

Two breweries offerings that I really enjoy are Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale and Howe Sound’s Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale. Sierra Nevada’s has a little more hoppy flavor while Howe Sound’s leans a little more to the sweet side. Both are refreshing and both are a great way to start the weekend lounging on the patio after work on a Friday afternoon.

Pale ale was the first beer I brewed at home and I have come back to it a couple of times now. But like a few other styles it is straight forward to brew but one that lends itself well to recipe tinkering.

The Beer Babe invited her readers to take a challenge that in my opinion will change some minds about the perception of the style. She is a great blogger and if you like reading beer blogs, you should check her blog out regularly.

As people that love craft beer, let’s not pass pale by and as I feel that it’s one of the best styles for summer, and pretty much any other time.
