And Now for Something Completely Different

OK, maybe not completely different but this is the first blog that I have started that has to do with a hobby and a passion and not justĀ  school or work related.

Welcome to Fond du Kosh Beer Blog where I will be posting my feelings about the industry, trends and the what-nots of my own home brewing. Feel free to opine yourself and let others know what you are thinking and feeling about a subject that you must love along with me. After all, why would you be reading a beer blog if you didn’t enjoy the subject too, right?

As I was saying one of the items that I will be regularly addressing will be where I see the brewing industry heading in its current trends. One of those that I see and and heard about from fellow home brewers is that the market share of the large corporate breweries (Miller, Coors, Pabst and the like) is actually shrinking. Where are these beer consumers heading is to the arena of high quality craft beer. It seems to me that the marker is demanding a broader selection of styles than the Standard American Lager. Yes that is recognized beer style. *shudder*

I see in national television ads that these beers are winning awards and medals. Pardon my bluntness but isn’t that akin to winning international acclaim for being the finest violinist in all of Byron, Wisconsin? For my own money I would rather purchase six or twelve quality, flavorful beers then a 30-pack of corporate swill. Jus’ sayin’.

In any event I would like to hear your opinion on the subject. Do you think that corporate giants are losing market share due to increased demand for quality?
